INTRODUCING DAVE MERCIER

Born and raised in central Massachusetts, Dave Mercier, a self-proclaimed diehard Beatles fan, fell in love with music in his early teens. The rest, as they say, is “history.”

“I was 17 when John Lennon died, and truth be told, his death had a genuine affect on me both emotionally and musically. The Fab 4 as a whole made an impact on my musical tastes, but I think John’s passing made me more driven and passionate about learning the craft of songwriting and recording music.”

Adhering to the passion that drove him, the UMASS Amherst grad recharted his course from economics and history to the entertainment sector. Mercier formed a band (The Ulster Boys) alongside his college buddy and best friend that ultimately disbanded due to independent goals or geographic location changes. He assembled another talented assortment of musicians, named The Modern Pladz. The four-piece band cultivated a magic that quickly caught fire in the college town and Boston circuit. The group shared the stage with renowned entertainers (such as John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band and The Smithereens) and captured the attention of various indie labels.

Resolving to differing musical objectives and direction, Mercier eventually relocated to Los Angeles with the intention to redirect his musical journey and craft. He played gigs throughout the South Bay and LA areas at Hennessey's Tavern, The Lighthouse, 2nd Street Promenade, Toppers, 8121, Genghis Cohen and Café Largo. The combination of the LA culture, music scene and personal finances forced an unplanned but necessary hiatus. Following the temporary five-year interlude, Mercier returned with a newfound determination to re-launch his career as a soloist in 2015.

With an affinity for raw acoustic productions and abstract imagery in both storyline and instrumentation, the seasoned singer-songwriter and stylist fuses together the sounds and lyrical structure of the 60s and 70s performers that continue to inspire him (The Beatles, Eagles, REM, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon and Neil Finn to name a few).

“Songwriting, for me, is like putting pieces of a puzzle together or sculpting something from nothing. Most of the songs I write are already done in my head; I just chisel away to form the final product with the hope to take the listener to a place and time that is more than a stream of consciousness.”

With a catalog of originals penned and in the vault, Mercier is positioning to release a series of recordings throughout the fall and winter of 2022, and spring of 2023.
